Traditionally the festive season brings with it thoughts of friends, family and laughter. However for many people today, it also means a whole lotta stress, in all shapes and sizes. Whether its being way too behind on the Christmas shopping, or your own end of year goals; in cases even meeting certain relatives could be enough to induce a mild anxiety attack . Ultimately it always feels like there’s way too much to do at this time of year, however it can help to keep in mind that there’s no point in overloading ourselves, in fact that can often make things even more unpleasant. We make various everyday problems worse with our implicit indignation that we must deal with them at all – as if we imagined we might one day get to live a problem-free life.  One hour of Exercise per week and can treat and help your mental health. If you don’t want to break a sweat, Yoga does wonders too . On the other hand this not only helps you mentally, but physically too. Exercise can help

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Do I need antibiotics at all?

Tis the season to catch a cold or flu, and over-dependence on anti-biotic drugs is yet again a massive concern among health professionals in Malta this winter. It seems there is an overwhelming tendency of people to stock up on anti-biotic medicines to combat cold and flu symptoms as needed during the winter months. Antibiotics require a prescription in Malta, however while they have been known to have been handed over the counter in the past, it is also common today for general practitioners to admit to needlessly prescribing such drugs knowing that these will simply be procured elsewhere should they refuse to. A stronger campaign to educate people that not all sicknesses can be cured with antibiotics must also be launched. Experts agree that the underlying danger associated with needlessly prescribing and taking antibiotic drugs, is that this may result in anti-microbial resistance (AMR) .  In simple terms, this is when the bacteria infecting people becomes immune to the medicine

Remember to drink water regularly

Water has been dubbed the essence of life. With this in mind it is no surprise that the beverage industry turns over trillions of dollars a year. Interestingly and progressively however, the percentage of that turnover actually coming from water is decreasing over time. With the endless choices of soft drinks, juices, energy drinks etc. on offer today it is not difficult to see why this is the case. Many people today are likely to stick with a coke or other fizzy drink with lunch, and at times go through the whole day without so much as a sip of water. This mind you, in a country were water is freely accessible, does not come at some extreme expense, and hence does not require miles of walking just to fetch it. Doctors, nutritionists and health professionals alike will agree that drinking water is essential for human health. Being hydrated affects the way we think, feel and function on a daily basis. While we may not always recognise its importance, water is a truly indispens

Poor diets are slowly killing us.

" Poor diets are among the top causes of ill health globally, accounting for nearly one in five deaths ." Why is it that a burger at McDonalds is 1 Euro but there is no cheap healthier version for 1 euro? If one wanted to be healthy they would need to spend at least 7 euro for a salad, which in reality isn't that healthy due to the serving count on their salad dressing.  Why is it that an app called  "  Ice Check allowing users to search for nearby McDonald’s restaurants..whom have a working ice cream machine"    news and widely available. However I rarely see major new agencies cover how they make their food, or the additives and ingredients used. Most days, people end up tired looking for fast food or something similar that doesn't require alot of effort when hungry.   Advertising and misleading words on items go hand in hand, and mislead consumers into thinking what they are eating is good for them. Most either  lack the knowledge or can't aff
